School staff

Yey, finally got some mail from my school Apparently there is this whole bunch of things I need to buy for my school. Pens, sketchbooks and a lot of things that I don't even know what they are.
I just hoped this list had come much earlier, because I've already bought myself bunch of things I tought I needed for school. Thank goodnes nothing too expensive, and I'm sure I'll be using everything. One of my favorite purchases was this Derwent Pencil Wrap.

Pencil Cases are quite important for school and now that I'm starting uni I wanted pencil case that was practical for me, that looked nice and also were my pens would be in good condition. So this wrap was just perfect. I also found it at a good price from Ryman only a bit less that £5. Every other store sells it for about £8-15. I've already filled it up with most of my pens that I know I will use for school (see how excited I am?)

I finally got my timetables too (or found them from our school's website, it wasn't that easy) and they are so messy that I don't understand them yet, but I might have whole friday free! Also now I know little bit of our freshers week which apparently starts few days earlier that I taught. Our school should've started 12 of September, but we have our introduction day on 8th. And I won't be in country on that date, so we'll see what I should do.

Two weeks and my school starts. I'm so excited!

I'm missing my internet!

I have like millions of things again what I want to write about, but coming to the library really takes it off me. We are still looking for different internet options, because if we don't have the phoneline in our apartment it's much harder. And the fact that we don't know how long are we going to live there, it feels like we would be making effort for our letting agency instead of them doing effort for us. We still can't find our apartment from any lists (like if ordering magazine etc), which is weird.

But I want to be more positive now. There were huge sales at Sports Direct so I finally got my joggingtrousers, which were great! It was so much lighter to run in them that in my collagetrousers. I also got sporttop which had sportbra in them. Also great! And inspired of our shopping we went for a jog with my boyfriend. Earlier I didn't want to run with him, because I knew that he runs much faster that I do. Well that wasn't problem and running with him actually made me run almost twice as long as I usually do.

Also we found great sales at River Island. I actually found this amazing greysilvery silk blouse which I fell in love with instantly! But I'm too afraid to use it, because it's silk.. I think I've never had anything from silk before. And then encouraged by my boyfriend I tried this camel coloured skirt with military buttons and fell in love with it the same evening! I didn't know my boyfriend knows what I should wear :D
And again, I would have some pictures for you if I would have own internet, but hopefully it wont take long anymore!
So now you can enjoy these beautiful, weird and inspiring pictures of Juno Temple.

Pictures are from Juno Temple's website.

School starts soon and Brad Pitt's in Glasgow

Today I finally could start registering for school. I'm so excited, actually so excited that I entered my password wrong like ten times before realising there is something wrong :D School is starting in about three weeks!!! Can't wait!
We've been shopping few days now around Glasgow, in city centre and Braehead, for some school stuff and for our home. Finally! And now I've got my calendar and it's great. I've been waiting for it for a long time. Because earlier I had to just remeber everything and now I can write everything down, and there is a lot of things to write down! We also bought me this beautiful teapot with green stars from Wittard, but I'll put pictures here as soon as we get our internet. Though we are having problems with it again. Now they've told us that like our apartment doesn't exist, so we would have to pay much more for the installation, even though it should've been included to the price. Big mess with that! But hoping we will figure it out soon, because I really need our internet already!
Oh yeah, and right now Brad Pitt is filming some zombie movie in Glasgow and we were today next to the filming place, though we didn't see him. Maybe some other day then :)

But how you're doing?

Fun things for weekend

Yesterday I was a bit down, because I hurt my arm. I hit it to the door handle, and while usually you have some nervpain from that, for me it continued the whole day. So it wasn't that nice. Now I have a bandage on it, so hope it helps!

But something more cheerful. We are going to see the new Harry Potter tomorrow. Yey! I can't wait! And because we are going to see that movie, we decided to watch all the previous movies before that. So we've watched 2 movies per day, except today we will watch Deathly Hallows part 1 and tomorrow part 2. And the weirdest thing is that my boyfriend agreed to this. I didn't have to even persuade him to do this. Well aguess I've teached him something :)

And tomorrow I finally can dress up. It is a bit dull to dress up for just walking around, but for movies I can put on my new dress that I found at British Heart Foundation. It is a bit ethnic with nice print and I totally fell in love with it straight away as I saw it, and I got it!

Oh yea, and here close to us is also somekind of charity fun fare right now, which we will visit tomorrow. So a lot of fun things for this weekend! Harry Potter in IMAX theather, charity fun fare, dressing up (would it be strange if I was most excited of the last one?)

Have a great weekend!

Moving in with surprises

Finally, I might have some more time. I've had so much to tell, but not any time for it.
Lets start with our moving. We finally got apartment, and it is great! We saw many many great apartments, but if you're aren't working it is very hard to get apartment. Many agencies don't believe that you would be able to your rent, so don't even consider you. Or the ones that would consider you offer you apartments that for my taste were awful! We also found one very lovely apartment, but we would've shared it with a roommate. That was also a big no for us. We wanted to live just the two of us. And then finally when time was almost running out I found apartment that was just for us. It was big enough, clean enough, close enough to our both schools and subway station, and the price was good.
We first had few problems with getting the apartment (apparently people don't do the work they should do and you have to do it yourself) but finally we got everything sorted out and signed our lease and got the keyes.

We had many new surpires as we moved in. Even though the apartment was pretty clean and in good condition there were still many problems too. First problem was that we didn't know how to use boiler AND in our home we had to top up our gas and electricity. And we did something wrong on the first time, so that we paid ex-tenants debts. We couln't first understand it, but after couple of calls to Scottish Power we finally figured out that aswell (though after few conniptions). But now we have warm water and warm house.

The other surpise was our toilet. It is actually quite nice. It has a bathtub and two showers over it (electric and gas). I love that we have bathtub now. I have been dreaming of it for ages! But the surprise thing was that our door is transparent. It's not that practical. And we don't have a lock for our toilet door. Or actually we do, but we have to lock it with a key and I already once got stock in the toilet because the key got stock. So we decided not to use the key. Well we figured out a system, so that we don't walk on eachother.

Next surprise.. or it didn't come as a surprise. We knew that the apartment has gas stew, but had never used one before. It was a bit scary to use it the first time, but we survived, and now I actually like to use it! It reminds me of when I used to visit my grandmother or my aunt and they had gas stews.

And you would think the surprises were over, but when cleaning the apartment we noticed that one door was broken, so we can't use it at all before it's going to be cleaned. There is chewing cum stuck on the bedroom carpet (yuuuh), there was one board missing from bed and there were cigarettes above the toilet. The ceiling is so high it is almost impossible to change lamps. But those are little things, though we really would like those broken drawers, door and bed be fixed!

And right now the last surprise regarding the house is that almost everyone uses here phone lines. I mean I have used home phone and adsl internet last time like 10 years ago. I am so used to cable lines that I couldn't believe that it takes three weeks to set up our internet and I can't believe that we need phone line! And I don't know why, but we need to pay deposit so that we can open our phone and internet line. The deposit is £100, which is wutie a lot when you have just moved to new country and are still waiting everything to be figured out.

Like I said I had a lot to tell about, and I;m sure I still haven't told everything. I tought of writing some kind of list what one needs to do when moving in UK. But if I survived this, I'm sure everyone else will aswell.
In couple of months I will start school and I hope by that time we will finally have everything done and figured out. Now my priority is to get my lovely cats here too!

Saw Billy Boyd

When we had just moved to our new appartment we walked quite a lot around this place and once when we stopped to take cash from ATM I saw him. I saw Billy Boyd. Well I had to look at him three times before I was sure and it took like all of my will power not to run straight for my boyfriend and screaming "you know who I saw?". Well I almost did that. As soon as my boyfriend was next to me I almost started jumping like a rabbit and told him with this squeeke noise "You know who that is? That is Pippin! You know from the Lord of The Rings". Well he wasn't as excited as I was. But I was almost jumping and screaming. I might have made fool of myself.
As soon as I got a grib of myself I send SMS to my bestfriend who instantly asked me if I got his autograph. And I told her that I woulnd't dare do that. Yeah, I can almost scream and jump, but I wouldn't ask for autograph. Good me! :D

A bit of information

Hi everyone!
I haven't been writing here in a long time. Though I have a good reason, which I don't like so much, because I miss writing here.
We got an apartment at last, and have already lived there for almost three weeks! It has been great! I really like our place, there is just few problems, but not that big ones. The biggest problem might be that we don't have internet yet. We ordered one from BT, but they said we have to pay £100 deposit, soo, we have to collect a bit of money for that. And after that we still need to wait some time before they connect our internet. Hopefully everything happens soon, because I am kind of annoyed without internet. Right now I'm in the library, but in here too there is only a limited time for me to use internet and usually I use it for looking for jobs.
There is so much to tell right now, so I hope we'll get our internet soon!
But I am so happy right now with our apartment and my boyfriend has been wonderful! Making me breakfast almost everymorning. It is just the best way to wake  and stand up!

My thoughts

This last five months I've felt funny. Like I'm in a rive just following the flow. I am living my life as it goes. I have dreams and goals, but I don't understand that I'm not in Finland. I understand that I am getting used to many new things, but I don't geel like I don't belong. I feel that this is were I am now, and that is how it is supposed to be. There is all the time happening new things and I still don't understand everything around me, so it's like studying this new life everyday again and again. It might be a little frustrating some times but not boring! I just need to know that I am moving forward all the time and being happy. I need to live my life and enjoy it with good and bad days. Hopefully more a lot lot more good days!

Missing for work!

Okay, have been back to Scotland for more than a week now and been dealing with millions of things.  So many things happening at the same time and my mind is swirling around them. But in couple of weeks it all should be figured out and I can finally catch some breath! And then I'll tell you more about it.
But for now if somebody knows any Administrator, Assistant, Receptionist or Secretary work in Scotland where I could work, I would love to hear about it. Would be nice to finally do something and not just sit and wait for time to go by. Though I would love to hear about any other job possibility too! But if someone would want me as their Personal Assistant I tell you I would be best at that job and work like workaholic! Missing work a bit :D

This is an old picture of me at work.

Tips for group interviews

I wanted to share few tips about group interviews with you incase here is someone who would want some tips.

* First of all smile all the time. But a natural smile or they just think you're freaky.

* Be polite, greet and make eye-contact.

* Listen carefully. It is okay if you ask to repeat question, but show that you listen. And answer the question as it is asked.

* Research the company you are being interviewed for, so that if they ask you questions about the company you may be able to answer them.

And here are few questions you may have to answer:

* What attracted you to this company?
* Why we should hire you? What makes you a good employee?
* How is this company different from all the other companies?
* Tell me about your selve? (you should tell your name, maybe your age, what have you done school, work, voluntary work, anything relevant to the position you are applying for)
* How would your friend describe you?
* What is diversity? And is it important?
* Give an example of when you did a good team work?
* Give a specific example of when you worked without supervision?
* If you would hire a new employee what feature would you look from the applicants?
* What are your goals in your life?

Here are few of the many. But actually you can except almost any question in the interview. I've heard many funny stories and one of my favorites were I was asked 'What action hero would I be?'. I was so surprised by the question I said the second thing that came to my mind. First was Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch) but I think he isn't an action hero, so my second answer was Wonderwoman. And of course I don't know anything about Wonderwoman and couldn't tell why would I want to be her.
So best advice is be prepared for anything!

Pictures are from stockholmstreetstyle.com, and these would be some perfect looks for interviews. The first is quite bright and edgy, but I still love it!

I have finally been able to try my new trainers. And I can tell you I am quite happy with them. They are light and comfortable, and I felt good running in them.
I have anemia, so it is sometimes a bit hard to start working out again. And now I have been going for a job about three times a week and already I can see improvement. Every time I can run for a little bit longer and won't get so tired. First time I felt like I was dying.. well not exactly, but almost. And the last time which was the longest run of all I felt good and comfortable when I came back.

So I'll be continuing my new hobby and keep you posted about my improvements.

Few interviews

Okay, now I have finally been in few interviews. The first interview was for a cafe and there was this very nice man interviewing me. At first I was over nervous. Like my whole body was trembling and I thought I would faint. Mostly it was because of the language barrier. Even though I speak and write english I am not used to scottish dialect and I should speak more, so I would get used to speak. But as soon as my interviewer greeted me I felt relaxed and felt good at the interview.

The second and third interviews were group interviews which was already a bit scary for me because I've never been to a group interview. I looked up the internet what to expect from a group interview and got as prepared as I could. But at the interview I got more nervous than ever. My feet were trembling so hard I couldn't stand. We had the interview for a kids store and at first we filled up few forms, after that we drew a picture of what we felt was perfect. And then we made a little "speech" about ourselves, our picture and answered few questions. I was so nervous I think I didn't speak so understandably, but praktis praktis.

And the third interview also the group interview was to a clothing store. Though I have much more to say about it, but I tell some other time. This time I wasn't nervous. Maybe it was partly because I saw all the other applicants terror and felt stronger because of it. I was outgoing and spoke well. But we'll see.

After this last interview I had to had something good, so I found chupa chups from American Candy on Sauchiehall Street. And now after walking home I am so exhausted I could just fall asleep!

Weard Scottish language

Living in Scotland is very different from living in Finland, but one of the major things is the language. It is English, though we call it Scottish, because you can't understand the dialect. To me it sounds a bit like germany, but germany that you can't understand. After staying here for couple of months I've used to some questions they ask me at store, but other wise I usually have to ask twice or even trice again, because I didn't understand.
Today I found in this Scottish magazine called Scotcampus "Speaking Scottish A survival Guide" It is tottaly great and funny, so I taught to share it with you.

Boak - Vomit
"Loads of boak on Sauchiehall Street this morning, guess someone had a good night"

Brassic - Financially broke
"Sorry I didn't get you a Christmas present Mum, I'm pure brassic"

Boorach - Total Mess
"You were in some state last night, what a boorach"

Min - Man
"How's it goin min?"

Gallus - Bold and overly self confident
"I've no idea why a big, thich uglly bastard like you should be so gallus"

Girn - To Moan
"All you ever do is girn!"

Mooch - Rummage and scrounge
"If you need some change for the bus just have a mooch down the sides of the couch"

Hoachin - Really busy
"God this Post Office is hoachin, must be giro day"

Midden - A dump
"I wouldn't go there mate, Hull is a total midden"

Glaikit - Thick
"The sign said turn right for the M8 and you went left" Are you that glaikit?"

Numpty - An idiot
"What do you mean you forgot the passports you numpty?"

Hoorna - Very
"It was hoorna good"

Wheesht - Shut up
"Will you wheesht a minute I'm listening to The Proclaimers"

Chibbed - Stabbed
"Oh bollocks I've just been chibbed!"

Jaikia - A vagrant (normally an unpleasant one)
"Quit askin me for change you jaikie"

Dreich - Wet and cloudy
"Perfect, dreich holiday weather - welcome to Scotland"

Greet - To cry
"Quit greeting, you can always watch River City on catch up"

Pish - Urine or Rubbish
"This pub stinks of pish, are we really goin to eat here?"

Swally - Alcoholic drink
"Fancy a swally after work or are you still totally under the thumb?"

Pus - A head of face
"That guy's pus is disgrace"

Sleekit - Sly and sneaky
"I'm sure that sleekit neighbour of ours is stealing our mail"

Rammy - Afight
"Wouldn't go to the toilet now mate, couple of NEDS are having a rammy"

Stramash - A disordered scuffle involving more than two people
"There was some stramash on the High Street last night, limbs and bodies all over the place.

Minker - Someone unhygienic
"Urgh, don't even think about touching me you smelly wee minker"

I personally haven't heard any of these used yet so I must listen carefully from now on. But generally Scottish speak with a twist so to speak. When I was asked if I had a printer they said something that sounded 'painter' and it took a minute or two to acknowledge what they said.

The story is from Scotcampus April 2011 / Issue 95
